Founded in 1716, Minokichi Honten Take Shigero is one of Kyoto’s great keepers of kaiseki tradition. In the Edo period it was counted among the official fish restaurants serving the Kyoto magistrate’s office, and it later moved to its current address in 1950. Renamed “Take Shigero” in 1992—literally, a pavilion lush with bamboo—the restaurant’s rooms look out onto a serene bamboo garden that sets a calm, Zen-like mood. Come for Kyoto-style kaiseki that quietly celebrates the seasons, with attentive hospitality and a sense of history you can feel between courses. A five-minute walk from Higashiyama Station.
